Why use a bivvy bag?

Compared to a conventional tent, a bivvy bag is way more convenient as bivvy bags are smaller, lighter and easier to pack and carry. Of course, they are less confortable.

Bivvy bags are most useful when used as emergency shelters for individuals. They are very popular amongst climbers, mountaineers, hikers, soldiers, minimalist campers…

NOTE: A bivvy bag can also be referred to as: bivouac sack, bivouac bag, bivy sack, bivy bag, bivvy sack or simply bivy!

Bivvy bag technologies

At first, bivvy sacks were extremely basic consisting of a single layer of waterproof fabric. This generation had many flaws like humidity and the difficulty to breathe.

Today, many improvements have been introduced to provide a better user experience and much more comfort. A good example is the use of GoreTex Exchange Lite, an air permeable fabric, which not only allows moisture to escape avoiding humidity, but also the carbon dioxide exhaled by the user so that you can safely zip up your bivvy and breathe naturally.

Unless you are looking for a cheap basic bivvy, we strongly recommend that you go for a GoreTex based bivvy. Check out our selection of GoreText Bivvy Bags.
